Please join the Board of Directors of Pleasant Hill Church and Cemetery for our 109th annual celebration Sunday May 26, 2019 from 2-4PM.
This year’s guest speaker will be Edna Dieterle from the Mourning Society of St. Louis. The Mourning Society is a civilian re-enacting group with a focus on mid-nineteenth century mourning, death culture, funeral customs and Victorian spiritualism. Edna will share her knowledge of Victorian mourning customs and will have original items on display from her personal collection including hair work pieces, post-mortem pictures, mourning china and jewelry. Come see how our ancestors who rest at Pleasant Hill would have mourned during the Victorian era! For more information about the Mourning Society of St. Louis, please visit www.mourningsociety.com.
Our Vice-President, Angie Wagner, will provide an update on the latest projects happening at Pleasant Hill and will also provide information about “green” burials. While the name may imply and earth-friendly connotation (which is a good thing!), it really comes down to “getting back to basics of how our ancestors were buried”. Angie will discuss what it entails to “go green” and how we plan to incorporate more natural burials at Pleasant Hill.
This is always a great opportunity to go inside this historic church.
This event is free and open to the public.
